Quick Resume

I’m mass communication post graduate, with graduation in business, economics & accounting. I started my career with Ogilvy & Mather as a copywriter in 1986.  In my career spanning 32 years now, I’ve spent 25 years doing integrated marketing.

After spending a decade and half in advertising industry (O&M, Grey, JWT, Lintas/Lowe), I turned into an entrepreneur.  I co-founded a company called Up Close & Personal or UCP. UCP specialised in integrated marketing solutions. But after 14 years, I had to shut my venture and return to corporate world as an employee. Three things killed it – my arrogance, inability to retain talent and  and debt. I worked for Pine Labs, Aimia and Qwikcilver. Now, I’m associated with Nrityagram, the Odissi Dance Centre. I’m writing, having just published my first book.

I enjoy reading, a lot and a lot of diverse subjects. But what I enjoy most is economics of everything. I’m very fond of observing people. I love to interact with people. Intelligent and meaningful conversations excite me. I laugh easily and greatly appreciate people with sense of humour.  TED talks enlighten me. My favourite magazine is The Economist. And to start a morning without Business Standard makes me morose.

There are many people I admire. Narayana Murthy in business – I built my company on ethical values Mr Murthy espoused. I’m a big fan of Rahul Dravid. Vivian Richards, Micheal Holding, Harsha Bhogle, Dr Eric Berne, Nandan Nilekani, Ramachandra Guha, T N Nina, Bejoy Kumar Y, Jeffery Archer, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Malcolm Galdwell are the personalities I admire.

I was born in Delhi. I have worked in Delhi, Bombay and Bangalore. I now work and live in Mumbai.

I have a pet dog too, for past 9 years now  – Marley, who is every ready to encourage me.

Welcome to my blog!
